Questions
The CAA splits a UK SORA application into two assessments. Assessment 1 (our Phase 1) is the sanity check: you set out your operation, your SAIL and containment level, and the mitigations you are claiming. The CAA checks only that the SAIL is right and that you meet the requirements for those mitigations. Pass that and you move to Assessment 2: the full evidence stage, where you show how you meet every requirement at your SAIL (operational safety objectives, containment, flightworthiness) and the CAA grants your Operational Authorisation. Our service covers Phase 1 in full. Ask us about Phase 2 on the call.
Our side of the work. Within 48 hours of your consultant call you have your full evidence list and step-by-step assessment pack, everything you need to assemble and submit your Phase 1 application. Gathering the evidence itself is your side, and how long that takes depends on your operation and what you already have to hand. We can't put a number on it, but the list tells you exactly what is needed. CAA review times are set by the CAA.
No. The CAA charges its own fee on submission, and it is not included in ours. For Assessment 1 (our Phase 1) the CAA charge is fixed at £2,422 whatever your SAIL. The Assessment 2 charge is set by your SAIL. CAA charges for 2026/27:
| SAIL | Assessment 1 | Assessment 2 | Total fixed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | £2,422 | No charge | £2,422 |
| 2 | £2,422 | £1,384 | £3,806 |
| 3 | £2,422 | £7,985 | £10,380 |
| 4 | £2,422 | £11,418 | £13,840 |
| 5 | £2,422 | £14,878 | £17,300 |
| 6 | £2,422 | £14,878 | £17,300 |
Assessment 2 can also attract an additional £346 per hour if the CAA's review runs long. Source: CAA, charges for a UK SORA-based Operational Authorisation.
For every application we partner with an independent SORA advisor to the UK military, who assesses your case and leads your step 3 call.
The SORA process lets you claim a range of mitigations that reduce your SAIL. Our expert advisor goes through every option open to your operation and platform during your step 3 call.
Your aircraft spec, where you want to fly, and any requirements you already have from your current SAIL.
If the CAA raises findings before approving your claimed SAIL, our offer includes a further two-hour call with our SORA expert to go through your available options.
